As your Aquaponics System matures and the Friendly Bacteria continue to convert ammonia to

Nitrite, Hydrogen is released. The Hydrogen (H2) combines with the Carbon Dioxide (CO2) in the

water and produces Carbonic Acid. If the plants in your System are small in number or not

mature, then you may find the pH of your System decreasing to dangerous levels.

Once the pH falls below 7.0 and continues to fall, then the Friendly Bacteria also begin to fail in

their performance, and the ammonia levels start to rise. The water turns murky, and your

Aquaponics System is now sick and your fish are in danger of dying because of too much

ammonia.

Advanced Nutrients pH-UP is 36% Potassium Hydroxide, a very strong solution that needs to be

diluted 10:1 with water before you add small amounts to your Grow Beds only. Never pour

directly into your Fish Tank because even diluted that much, it can kill your fish.

Potassium is a necessary ingredient for plant growth. A Potassium deficiency will cause a loss

of the green color in your Leafy Greens and Cucumbers.

Keep a close eye on your System Chemistry with a Fresh Water Master Test Kit, and add pH-UP as

needed. You can watch your System's pH daily with one of our pH Meters in our Measuring

Devices Category.

It's important you keep your System's Chemistry in balance and healthy.
